Our family loves Jesus. We pray together and we serve God
together. However, this was not always the case.
Chris was raised in church. His Step-father was a Baptist
preacher. He invited Jesus into his heart when he was 11
years old. But, when he was a teenager, he fell away from
the church and turned his back on God for over 10 years.
Susan had a similar experience having been saved at about
the same age and running from the Lord in her teens.
Chris and Susan were married when they graduated from high school and started building a
family. God was "missing" from our family because we wouldn't let Him in. We had some
very difficult times. We had a lot of problems we tried to solve on our own and without God's
help. We didn't have very many friends or a church family to help us. We also did and said a
lot of things we shouldn't have because we didn't pay attention to what God wanted us to do.
The longer we went without God, the harder it was to come back to Him. Finally, when
Samantha asked Jesus to come into her heart, without our help, at an After School Bible
program, we knew it was time to stop running from God and start running to Him.
Of course, He welcomed us back into His loving arms. We now know that God had never left
us. We had left Him. We tried to leave and ignore Him but He was still with us. The devil
loved it when we were running from our Father. The devil wants us to think we don't need
God. But, the bible tells us in Romans 8:38-39:
"Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor
anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ
Jesus our Lord."
In our old lives, we used our musical gifts to promote a world of sin. Fifteen or twenty years
ago, we would have laughed you out of town if you would have told us God would lead us to
serve Him in a bluegrass music ministry. The devil likes to remind us our sinful past lives.
We like remind the devil of his future!
